Spiritualist mediumship is a religious and scientific practice that defines mediumship as the demonstrated communication between the living and the spirits of those who have passed into the spirit world. Unlike other faiths that rely on abstract belief, Modern Spiritualism is built on the principle that the continuity of life is a verifiable fact through spirit contact.
Mediumship is traditionally categorized into two primary forms— Mental and Physical distinguished by how the information or phenomena manifest to the medium and those around them.
1. Mental Mediumship
The most common form, where a medium connects their consciousness directly with a spirit via a telepathic bond. It relies on the "clairs" (psychic senses):
Clairvoyance (Clear Seeing): Receiving images, symbols, or scenes in the "mind's eye".
Clairaudience (Clear Hearing): Hearing spirits as internal voices or thoughts, often indistinguishable from the medium's own inner narrator.
Clairsentience (Clear Feeling): Sensing emotions, physical pains, or the presence of a spirit through the body.
Claircognizance (Clear Knowing): Sudden, unexplained insights or facts that arrive without a logical source.
2. Physical Mediumship
A rarer form where spirits supposedly manipulate physical energy to create phenomena perceptible to all present. Key types include:
Ectoplasm: The production of a semi-physical substance used by spirits to interact with the material world.
Direct Voice: Spirits speaking independently of the medium's vocal cords, often amplified by a trumpet.
Levitation & Table Tipping: The movement of objects or séance tables through spirit influence.
Spiritual Healing
In the Spiritualist tradition, spiritual healing is a specific Divine Service governed by Natural Law. It is defined as a collaboration between the Divine Source, the Spirit Healing Guides, and the Mediumistic Healer. Referred to as Hands on Healing often including light touch from the shoulders to the head.
Preparing for a Mediumistic Reading
Arrive calm and focused whether in person or remote. A relaxed state helps create a clear connection.
Allow the medium to work in their own way and timing.
Information may come through memories, emotions, or shared experiences—acknowledge what you recognize.
Keep an open mind. Meaning may become clearer during or after the session.
Avoid debating or trying to direct the reading.
Readings are meant to offer insight and guidance, not fixed predictions.
Your choices always matter; the future is not set.
Mediumship is a spiritual exchange, not fortune telling.
If you have questions, reflect on them beforehand and allow time for answers.
Let the session end naturally when the connection is complete.
